Innovative companies use NVIDIA AI for sustainable energy

The adoption of clean energy often proceeds slowly due to outdated infrastructure, long R&D timelines, and high startup costs. During New York Climate Week, NVIDIA highlights five companies that integrate AI into their clean energy projects. These innovations accelerate the transition from research to application and contribute to the development of a low-carbon network.

ThinkLabs AI applies digital twins and agents using the NVIDIA CUDA platform to speed up network integration time. By utilizing AI simulations, the company can solve interconnection issues in just two minutes, which meant for Southern California Edison that evaluation times could be reduced from 30-45 days. Josh Wong, founder of ThinkLabs, emphasizes that this approach not only enhances reliability but also optimizes costs.

Atomic Canyon, also a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, optimizes the operation of nuclear power plants with AI-driven platforms. Their Neutron and NIVA systems combine regulation, operational experience, and data to create a knowledge layer that supports reactor operators. Trey Lauderdale, CEO of Atomic Canyon, states that AI provides a necessary innovation for the nuclear energy industry.

Furthermore, Redwood Materials innovates with recycled electric vehicle batteries to build off-grid energy solutions for AI factories. By integrating these batteries into the existing infrastructure, they enable the management of AI's energy demand with speed and flexibility. TerraPower focuses on developing the Sodium reactor, which allows for the safe and sustainable use of nuclear energy. Lastly, Commonwealth Fusion Systems is working on fusion energy for the grid in the 2030s, with AI tools significantly shortening the experimental timeline.
