Anthropic grows 45% and aims for an IPO in November
Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, achieved a revenue of $16.8 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This represents a 45 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. During a closed meeting with potential investors, the company indicated it is profitable after adjustments, and plans to go public in November. These figures have not been officially disclosed but have been confirmed by various financial media and insiders present at the meeting.
It's noteworthy that Anthropic's revenue has increased 3.5 times in just half a year. The company generated $4.7 billion in the first quarter, followed by $11.6 billion in the second quarter. Growth appears to continue, with forecasts for an annual revenue of around $110 billion by the end of 2026, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In addition to impressive revenue growth, Anthropic also has financial margins: for every dollar of computing power saved, the company generates $1.70 in revenue. The gross margin, after adjustments, is around 85 percent. This provides the company with a strong foundation for its upcoming IPO, although it remains unclear what exactly falls under the adjustments. In comparison, OpenAI recently reported that its revenue is nearly $20 billion lower than initially thought.
On June 1, 2026, Anthropic filed confidential documents with the U.S. securities regulator SEC in preparation for the IPO. Plans are in place for a roadshow in the week of November 9, with a possible valuation around $2 trillion. Anthropic's figures are particularly relevant for the Dutch market, where AI investors are currently hesitant. Recently, Dutch chip funds, which rely on the technology powering Claude, saw declines. However, Dutch investors are still waiting for the details of the IPO, such as pricing and number of shares.
Anthropic's figures provide powerful evidence for the financial viability of AI models, but the final truths will only become visible after the publication of the prospectus.
