Apple launches HomePod mini 2 with Siri AI
Apple announced on October 13, 2026, the launch of the HomePod mini 2, the latest version of its popular smart speaker, equipped with an advanced version of the voice assistant Siri. The HomePod mini 2, which will be available in the Netherlands from October 30, utilizes Siri AI, allowing users to have real conversations and access up-to-date information from their messages and calendar when connected to an iPhone or iPad.
One of the main innovations of Siri AI is its ability to recognize up to six users by their voice, promoting personalization. This version of Siri not only provides current answers to frequently asked questions but also has access to the internet to supply information. Although Siri AI is not yet available in Dutch, the speaker will offer other enhanced features in the Netherlands, such as improved sound quality and smart home control options.
The HomePod mini 2 features the new S10 chip and can create surround sound in combination with other HomePod mini 2s. The speaker also introduces a visual effect called Sound Glow, where the top of the speaker lights up in different colors synchronized with the music. The HomePod mini 2 is available in various colors, including pink and midnight, and supports controlling other smart devices in the home.
When using the HomePod mini 2, users can use their voice commands to, for example, lock doors or adjust the thermostat. The smart speaker can also apply sound recognition for alarm systems, allowing users to receive immediate notifications on their Apple devices if an alarm is detected. All these features are made possible by the powerful processing capabilities of the S10 chip, enabling the HomePod mini 2 to offer more than its predecessor.
The expected price for the HomePod mini 2 in the Netherlands is currently unknown, while the price in the US has been set at $149. It is clear that Apple is raising the bar for smart speakers with Siri AI, but it remains to be seen when Dutch users can fully benefit from these new capabilities.
