Arm presents 2026 platform: more powerful AI and better gaming experiences
Arm unveiled its 2026 platform during Computex in Taipei, which is aimed at the integration of artificial intelligence and enhanced gaming experiences in future smartphones and laptops. The new platform emphasizes on-device AI, where key computations are performed locally without having to send personal data to the cloud. This not only provides faster response times but also complies with strict regulations such as the European AI regulation and GDPR, ensuring better privacy for users.
The 2026 platform utilizes so-called NPUs, alongside enhancements in CPUs and GPUs, to support a broader range of AI functionalities. Arm has optimized its CPU cores and introduces the Immortalis GPU series, designed for advanced 3D rendering and AI instructions. This leads to more efficient energy consumption and higher graphical performance, which is crucial for demanding mobile games and other applications where image quality is important.
A key focus of the roadmap is improving the gaming experience. According to Arm, the platform will be capable of achieving higher and more stable framerates, even under heavy usage. Through smart task distribution among the CPU, GPU, and NPU, heat and energy consumption need to be efficiently managed. This is not only beneficial for performance but could also lead to cost savings for European game developers and publishers.
The platform allows manufacturers to offer flexibility with their chip integration, enabling various CPU, GPU, and NPU components to be combined. The first commercial devices with the 2026 platform are expected around 2026, with a strong focus on the European market, where data privacy and local usability have been prioritized. The capabilities of local AI processing could be attractive to governments and companies looking to protect sensitive data while simultaneously leveraging the benefits of modern technology.
