Canva lays off 1,200 employees due to slowed growth
Canva, the well-known design agency, has announced that it will lay off more than 1,200 employees, representing a reduction of 22% of its total workforce. This decision comes in light of a significant decrease in growth that the company is experiencing, as it faces what CEO Melanie Perkins describes as the 'toughest year' so far.
The savings are a response to increasing economic pressure and a shift in user demand. While Canva previously benefited from a booming sector where businesses and individuals rushed to create online content, a general cooling of the market has led to decreased demand for their services. This has necessitated rigorous measures to optimize operations and reduce costs.
The layoffs are part of a broader trend visible in the technology sector, where several companies have reduced their workforce due to challenging economic conditions. Despite this pressing situation, Canva remains committed to its growth ambitions and hopes to reposition itself for future opportunities in the competitive market.
