ChatGPT gains ground on Gemini according to Similarweb
Recent research from Similarweb shows that ChatGPT has increased its share of traffic to AI chatbot websites. The percentage of visits to ChatGPT rose from 53 to 56 percent over four months, while Gemini saw a slight decrease from 26 to 25 percent. This provides insight into the frequency of website visits but says little about the number of unique users or subscriptions.
The growth of ChatGPT comes to light, although the percentage is still lower than a year ago, when the share was at 71 percent. The recent increase of three percentage points indicates that ChatGPT is strengthening its position, while Gemini still holds a strong market presence. However, this does not suggest that users are switching, as one person can visit both platforms in a single day.
Similarweb measures traffic by analyzing the number of visits to websites. It is important to note that these visits are not unique users; a single user can visit the same website multiple times. Additionally, a declining percentage does not automatically mean that traffic is decreasing, especially in a growing market.
Gemini remains closely behind ChatGPT with stability, while the position of Claude, another chatbot, is mentioned as a potential challenger. Anthropic's expected focus on consumers may further influence this dynamic. The data from Similarweb primarily point to the growth of ChatGPT but also highlight a significant market share held by Gemini.
