ChatGPT now connects to iCloud Mail and Calendar: here's how it works
ChatGPT has recently added the ability to integrate iCloud Mail and the iCloud calendar into its functionalities. Users can now easily search their emails or create and modify appointments using these plugins. Connecting the plugins requires a special password that is created through the Apple account settings. This allows users to ask ChatGPT to find a specific email or provide a summary of the inbox.
The integration of the iCloud Mail plugin enables ChatGPT to read emails, manage drafts, and even send new emails. Additionally, the Calendar plugin can view and manage appointments, which is useful for users looking to optimize their calendar management. This applies to all appointments entered in the iCloud calendar, including those from other applications connected to iCloud. OpenAI has provided some helpful examples of using these tools within ChatGPT, such as checking upcoming appointments or searching for important emails.
For connecting iCloud to ChatGPT, it is important to create an app-specific password instead of using the standard Apple password. This enhances the security of personal data, especially considering the requirements of GDPR in Europe. People should be aware that by linking their iCloud account to ChatGPT, it may gain access to sensitive information, such as customer data and confidential appointments.
It is important to note that the plugins only work with Apple email addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com. This excludes email accounts from other providers, such as Gmail and Outlook, for which ChatGPT already has other integrations. The integration also works with Dots, a recent proactive AI agent from OpenAI, which can perform tasks in connected applications in the background. However, users should be attentive to their privacy and the access they grant to ChatGPT.
