Claude now works directly in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
Anthropic has announced that the AI assistant Claude can now work directly within Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This new extension allows users to integrate the assistant into their documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Both editing features and the ability to create Google files from a chat are currently available in beta.
Claude for Google Workspace is accessible to all paying users of Claude. The extension places a sidebar next to the open file, allowing Claude to read the document and view the selected parts. This integration enables text adjustments in Google Docs, generating formulas and charts in Google Sheets, and adding new slides in Google Slides.
In Google Docs, users can ask Claude to rewrite sentences or adjust headings. For larger changes, Claude can present suggestions that the user can approve or reject. In Google Sheets, it is possible to easily create budget overviews and analyses with Claude, while Claude can assist in structuring and refreshing presentations in Google Slides.
The extension is designed to work seamlessly from either an open Google file or from Claude itself. It provides the ability to create or edit documents simply by pasting a link in the chat or requesting a new document. Importantly, Claude automatically respects file access based on existing sharing rights, requiring users to grant permission before changes are applied.
To get started with Claude in Google Workspace, users can install the extension via the Google Workspace Marketplace. After installation, the assistant can be easily opened in a file. For specific teams or organizations, an administrator may need to first enable the features. It offers significant advantages for recurring tasks such as reporting, editing work, and presentation changes, which can optimize the workflow.
