FVD asks Jetten for explanation about AI use on social media
Forum for Democracy submitted parliamentary questions to Prime Minister Jetten on September 16, 2026, regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for social media posts. The party requests clarification on the methodology and transparency of AI usage, as this concerns the guidelines for government communication to citizens. The Prime Minister is required to respond to these questions within three weeks, which aim to clarify whether the existing guidelines have actually been adhered to.
Research by the Volkskrant has shown that various social media posts by Jetten were written by an AI model. D66 has confirmed this information and indicated that some of these texts were approved without any adjustments. This raises questions about compliance with the guidelines of the Dutch government, as none of the posts indicated that the texts were generated by AI, undermining the notion of transparency regarding the use of AI.
The government-wide guideline 'Responsible Use of Generative AI', released by the Ministry of the Interior, emphasizes the importance of clarity in communication. It calls for ensuring that when AI-generated content is used, it is clearly recognizable to the public. Designations should be visible, so recipients are aware of the origin of the texts or images shared on social media.
The parliamentary questions from Forum for Democracy specifically target the possible inconsistency of Jetten's approach with the mentioned guideline. They also ask whether he is willing to disclose the use of AI in his communication in the future and request that a number of the prompts used be made public. This requires not only factual information but also a judgment from the Prime Minister on the desirability of such posts. These questions highlight the core of the discussion, where transparency, compliance, and the technical use of AI are central.
