Google adds document editor to Gemini

Google has extended its chatbot Gemini with a new document editor, enabling users to create, view, and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, and even code directly in the chat. This feature is available in all the languages in which the Gemini app operates, including Dutch. This allows users to efficiently manage their documentation without having to manually export files to external programs.

One of the standout features of the new document editor is the ability to view files in full screen. Users can make text changes with immediate feedback within the chat environment. It also makes it easy to convert handwritten notes into a PDF study guide. Additionally, presentations can be created by asking Gemini to suggest slides, which can then be edited in chat and later downloaded in Google Slides or as a PDF.

According to Google, the new capabilities are available for all users of the Gemini app, with no specific costs or separate subscriptions mentioned. However, it appears that there are differences between the platforms; PDFs can be edited on both mobile and web, while other file types such as documents and spreadsheets are only accessible via the web version.

The document editor of Gemini is similar to features offered by other AI tools, such as Gamma AI, but stands out due to the variety of file formats that can be edited. However, there are still some unanswered questions, such as the impact of subscription groups and any limits on the number of files that can be created per day.
