Government relaxes permit requirements for power grid
The current government has announced its intention to accelerate the construction of new power connections. This is an important step to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity, especially given the increasing reliance on sustainable energy sources. To achieve this acceleration, the permit requirements for the construction of high-voltage connections and stations will be relaxed.
An essential measure is the introduction of a special expedited legal procedure, which will come into effect on October 1st of this year. This procedure is intended for objections submitted against the construction of new power connections. The goal is to significantly shorten the time required for processing objections, allowing projects to be realized more quickly.
The change in legislation is a response to the urgency created by the demand for electricity and the need to integrate sustainable energy sources into the current power grid. The government recognizes that delays in permit procedures are an obstacle to the energy transition and aims to remove these obstacles as quickly as possible.
The measures are part of a broader strategy to make the energy infrastructure in the Netherlands future-proof. This aligns with the goals of the European Union in the field of energy and climate, where countries are committed to a rapid transition to a greener and more sustainable energy supply.
