Kazakhstan Expands Account with AI Infrastructure
Kazakhstan's AI ecosystem is making a significant transition from developing infrastructure to actual implementation. This development is visible in the full AI stack, which provides infrastructure, models, and applications. Recent announcements indicate a growing availability of accelerated computing capacity in the country, as well as increasing demand for the next steps in AI.
Kazakhtelecom, the largest telecommunications company in the country, has already implemented 400 NVIDIA H200 and 480 NVIDIA B300 GPUs in Astana and Almaty. In the coming year, the rollout of more than 1,000 GPUs in the Data Center Valley is slated, supplemented by over 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs in the Ekibastuz region. This infrastructure offers a range of opportunities for companies, developers, and institutions to operate on a larger scale.
Additionally, Kazakhstan's AI-native companies are expanding their computing capacity and associated applications. Examples such as inDrive and Pony.ai are collaborating to explore robotaxi services, with Astana as the first city for implementation. This utilizes the NVIDIA AI infrastructure, built on the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor system and the NVIDIA Halos safety system. The increased local capacity allows developers to train and optimize increasingly advanced models, stimulating the demand for more computing power.
However, the opportunities for AI in Kazakhstan are not solely dependent on the number of GPUs. Connecting this infrastructure with developers, universities, startups, and industries is crucial to turning accelerated computing capacity into actionable applications. The recent announcements underscore the various layers of this development: from infrastructure implementation and access to computing capacity to the development of AI-native products, elevating the foundation for AI to a new level.
