OpenAI upgrades ChatGPT Ads with image ads
OpenAI has announced that it will enhance the functionality of ChatGPT Ads by introducing image ads, which will be tested this month with a selection of American advertisers. These ads will be displayed during the image generation process but will remain separate from the generated content. The aim is to showcase products, services, and experiences through visual elements without influencing the responses of ChatGPT.
According to OpenAI, the separation between ads and ChatGPT responses will be maintained. The initial test phase takes place in the United States, while details about a possible introduction in the Netherlands have not yet been released. This step is part of a broader strategy to evaluate the effectiveness of advertising on the platform.
One significant expansion is that advertisers will now have access to more options to gain insights into the performance of their ads. OpenAI is expanding its collaboration with external measurement platforms, allowing companies to use purchase data to better assess the return on their ads. Additionally, it is being investigated to what extent ads can actually lead to additional purchases, which is important for determining the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
For Dutch marketers, the enhancement of measurement capabilities is of great importance. The creation of a new advertising channel must result in measurable customer conversions at acceptable costs. It is crucial for advertisers to define in advance what success means to them, whether that is additional sales, new customers, or more inquiries. The initial results that OpenAI will share are based on individual brands and measurement partners and serve as preliminary insights, not as representative performance indicators for the entire advertising community.
