NVIDIA's Perplexity Portable Computer Now Available Again

With the rise of local models, AI agents can increasingly perform tasks directly on a PC, keeping sensitive information on the device. The Portable Computer, a local version of the Perplexity Computer, is designed to plan and execute multi-step tasks. Thanks to the accelerated performance of NVIDIA GPUs, the Portable Computer can analyze data, combine information from various files, and handle recurring tasks. Using this technology allows users to keep sensitive data on their own device and save used Perplexity Computer credits.

With this release, Perplexity introduces the Portable Computer in the Perplexity app for Windows, which is compatible with NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and NVIDIA RTX PRO Workstations. This further expands the existing support for NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and RTX PCs on Linux, enabling more Windows users to leverage powerful agentic AI.

The combination of local and cloud-based AI within a single application allows for working with sensitive files on the PC, where users can benefit from built-in tools such as a browser and the SPACE sandbox. For more advanced tasks, the Portable Computer can recognize when cloud support is needed, prompting the user for permission before data is sent.

The easy-to-configure app works with a local model, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs. With connectors for various popular applications like Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive, and Slack, the agent can seamlessly integrate into users' daily workflows. Examples of use include reviewing pull requests in GitHub projects or analyzing financial data without documents ever being shared with a chatbot. The Portable Computer is now available for devices with 24GB or more VRAM, with tailored support for NVIDIA DGX Stations coming soon.
