PewDiePie introduces AI model Ajax after blockades by OpenAI

YouTuber PewDiePie has presented his new AI model, named Ajax. This model is designed to run locally on a computer and is intended as an uncensored assistant for daily tasks, such as internet searches and managing email and calendar. PewDiePie emphasizes that Ajax is not yet available to the public and that he only wants to release it when the model is fully completed.

Ajax is not entirely new but is a customized version of the Qwen 3.5 9B model. This means that PewDiePie has utilized an existing model and focused on reducing refusal behavior so that the assistant declines fewer requests. The term 'uncensored' that he uses is a self-chosen positioning and says nothing about the actual accuracy of the given answers.

PewDiePie also reveals that his OpenAI account was blocked twice during the development process. In a video, he shows an email indicating that a blockade was related to distillation, a process where answers from an AI model are used to train other models. However, the exact reasons and circumstances surrounding both blockades have not been fully clarified.

Ajax is specially developed for individuals who want to manage an AI environment themselves rather than relying on online chatbots. This plays into the trend where hardware manufacturers offer mini PCs for running AI models locally. Nevertheless, using Ajax still requires internet connections for certain tasks, such as visiting websites or retrieving email. The developer has not yet released a definitive launch date but reports that he will release Ajax when the product is ready for use.
