Judge lets Google go its way
In the United States, a judge opted not to impose restrictions on Google, even when using texts from other websites. This decision arose from a lawsuit brought by publisher Penske Media Corp and Chegg, in which they accused Google of improperly reproducing their content.
Google's parent company, Alphabet, managed to convince the judge that the accusations do not provide sufficient grounds for legal action. As a result, the company continues to use texts unimpeded and can maintain its own revenue model, which many view as a threat to the income of traditional publishers and authors.
The ruling has led to various reactions within the media and publishing world, where concerns have been expressed about the potential consequences such rulings may have for the protection of copyright. Although legal lines are still evolving, this decision offers Google a broader space to expand its activities.
Critics of the ruling point to the harmful impact this could have on the creative sector and call for stricter copyright protection. The discussion about the role of tech companies in media and their influence on the economy is becoming increasingly relevant, especially in the current digital age.
