Nordics and NVIDIA: The Future of Advanced Computing
The Scandinavian countries have developed into the European leader in the density of unicorn startups, with a remarkable production of emerging companies valued at over $1 billion per capita. This achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter where the countries are striving to build one of Europe's most influential technology ecosystems. The combination of existing computing advances and future possibilities reflects a region moving from ambition to concrete applications.
The foundation for positioning the Nordics as a technology mogul has already been laid. The region benefits from abundant renewable energy, strict data management, and a strong research tradition that bridges the gap between science and industry. Furthermore, the Nordics is one of Europe's fastest-growing infrastructure hubs, with a projected rollout of AI cloud capacity of 1 gigawatt by the end of 2027. Various cloud providers, including Bitdeer and CoreWeave, are active in the region. In Sweden, a consortium including Ericsson and AstraZeneca has introduced a shared supercomputer utilizing NVIDIA technology for further innovations.
Major technology companies in the Nordics are leveraging NVIDIA infrastructure to develop unique applications. Spotify uses NVIDIA technology to offer AI-powered podcast recommendations more efficiently and cost-effectively to its users. ABB Robotics has developed an innovative solution using NVIDIA's simulation capabilities that enhances the interaction between robotics and the real world, leading to significant efficiency gains. Other startups, such as Stilta and Agaton, are employing NVIDIA models for patent analysis and customer communication, thus contributing to the scaling up within the region.
On top of all these developments, the Nordics are also active in implementing autonomous technologies and quantum computing. Examples include Einride's autonomous trucks and Toyota Material Handling Europe's collaboration with NVIDIA to develop autonomous machines for factory applications. Additionally, the Stockholm AI Lab, a partnership between the Norrsken Foundation and NVIDIA, supports AI-innovative entrepreneurs focusing on global challenges. All of this indicates a powerful synergy between technology, innovation, and sustainable development in the Nordics.
