VanMoof and Xiaomi send letter to the minister

The Netherlands' approach to e-bikes, e-scooters, and other light electric vehicles (LEVs) differs significantly from that of other European countries. This is notable given that the EU operates as a single market with the expectation of uniform regulations. The European industry organization LEVA-EU has observed this inconsistency and believes it is not working, prompting them to take action.

In a joint effort, LEVA-EU and 82 other organizations and companies have sent a letter to Minister Karremans of Infrastructure and Water Management. The letter calls for a revision of the national rules that currently hinder the development and integration of electric vehicles in the Netherlands. The goal is to create a more harmonious and coherent approach that aligns with European standards.

According to the signatories, the current regulations not only undermine the growth of the light electric vehicle market in the Netherlands but also create confusion and obstacles for consumers. The letter emphasizes the need for equal treatment of LEVs within the EU, to prevent inequality between member states. This is essential for fostering innovation and supporting businesses active in this sector.

VanMoof and Xiaomi's concerns specifically focus on the impact of national legislation on their operations and the broader implications for the industry. Through this letter, they hope to initiate a constructive dialogue with the government alongside the European industry organization, effecting the necessary changes, which ultimately leads to a healthier market for all parties involved.
