Claude Desktop: The new app for your computer
Claude Desktop is the new application from Anthropic that allows users to use the popular AI chatbot Claude directly on their computer. After downloading and installing, which only takes a few minutes, users can get started with the desktop version, independent of their browser. The app is available for both Windows and Mac and offers not only free chat functionalities but also premium options through various subscription models, such as Pro and Enterprise.
Users can easily download the app via the official Claude download page or through the Microsoft Store for Windows users. The installation process is clear and fast: after downloading, users simply need to open the file and follow the instructions. Once installed, they can log in with their Claude account and start working on their ongoing projects immediately.
One of the key features of Claude Desktop is the Cowork function, which allows users to work directly with files on their computer without having to upload them first. This makes it easier for users to have Claude assist with tasks such as document management and report generation. This desktop app also includes provisions for programming via Claude Code and the ability to link programs on your computer through extensions.
Compared to the browser version of Claude, the desktop app offers advantages such as faster access via the taskbar icon and a less chaotic work environment, as the app does not reside among other browser tabs. Cloud and email integrations, such as with Gmail and Google Calendar, are also retained in the desktop version. App updates require no action from the user and are performed automatically, ensuring continuous access and ease of use.
