Ziggo launches 8 Gbit/s internet, upload slow
Ziggo has recently announced the provision of internet connections up to 8 gigabits per second (Gbit/s). This offering allows the cable provider to keep pace with the high download speeds offered by fiber optic providers. However, the focus on faster downloads comes with significant downsides, particularly regarding upload capacities.
When comparing upload performance, it becomes clear that Ziggo's cable network significantly falls short. The upload speed of the cable package is more than twenty times slower than that of fiber optic connections with the same download speed of 8 Gbit/s. This difference casts a shadow over the announced faster downloads and highlights the limitations posed by cable technology, especially for users looking to upload large files.
It is evident that Ziggo finds itself in a competitive market where high-speed connections are becoming the standard. Although the company is responding to the demand for faster internet with these new speeds, the upload capabilities are an important aspect that cannot be overlooked. This inequality may affect the choices of consumers and businesses, particularly in an era where cloud solutions and data-intensive applications are becoming increasingly common.
The gap between download and upload speeds remains a point of concern, both for Ziggo and for the customers who rely on a reliable and fast internet connection. The offering of 8 Gbit/s download capacity may be attractive, but the lack of a corresponding upload speed raises questions about the overall value of this new service for high-demand users.
